Holly
Holly was with us for nearly 15 years and was more than just my friend and companion, words cannot describe the pain of having to put her to sleep on 23rd December 2011 and how much I miss her. I wrote a poem about not spending our first Xmas together in so many years.
Christmas Holly
There was no Holly this Christmas time;
You couldn’t be here after so many years;
The emptiness filled the silence of you not being here;
Gone is the excitement or wagging tail and soft floppy ears;
No puppy feet slipping and sliding in haste for a treat;
No laughter or cries of ‘Here comes Holly - watch out!’
This time, just our memories and our tears.
I recall, as we passed through the years;
Quieter and a little slower each Christmas you grew;
But still proud of every present, stocking and Christmas chew;
You loved Christmas time and greeting all the visiting folk;
Always there, asking for endless cuddles and strokes;
Just memories and photos now are all I have of you.
I wish for the day when we are together again;
And I can see you sit at my feet on Christmas night;
Curled up, happy and content on the floor;
I can kiss your golden head and hug you tight;
And I have my Holly at Christmas time once more.
