Hello, Im Clinton Im not very good at writing on these forums but here goes. Our family Cat, Hammy, was hit by a car last night and sadly we had to have him put to sleep :( Now over the years weve had a number of these sad situation but to be honest were a family that believe that a Cat isnt made to be an indoor animal, they like to be out and about its in their nature. So we fully accept the risk of cars and other dangers they might come across. What we can not accept today and i feel sick inside about it that there are still people who hit animals with their cars (all be it by accident) and they dont stop! What im most sick about is that its the year 2012 and there no law out against this! What is that all about!!? I dont want to be to graphic for people but Hammy had a broken back and the vet said he couldnt feel the back end of his body but Hammy had crawled on his front legs from where he'd been hit to our front door! The RSPCA has a law about Cruelty to animals, what can be more cruel than leaving an animal like that!!? It makes be feel phsically sick and disgusted that someone could do that to an animal and more im disgusted that there isnt a law out there against it! I fully accept that people hit animal by accident with their cars but what i wont accept is people not stopping and also that there is no law against this! Something needs to be done about this because its an absolute disgrace! Im sorry about my rant but i end with this.. Your silent paws and gentle purrs forever will be missed rest in peace Hammy Goodbye old friend |

I wanted to say how reading of Hammy's loss moved me and made me so sad for you. We lost a young cat on the road some 8 years ago, and for a very long time we agonised about how he died and why didn't the driver stop. Even now, I still find it hard to imagine how you can knock an animal over, any animal be it badger/fox/rabbit/cat/dog, over and not stop. Just over a year ago, a dear neighbour and much loved friend lost his beloved ginger boy Bentley to the road. The driver who hit him didn't stop, but many other villagers did;- he was cradled in fleece by a kind man and his wife who were so upset that they couldn't save him. My sister also lost a much loved furry friend on the road in a quiet cul-de-sac, no-one ever admitted responsibility.
Dear Friend, please don't torture yourself and please, try not to let the 'what if's' hurt you even more than you hurt already..... I'm so very sorry for the loss of your dear Hammy. I wish that all humans loved animals as deeply as we do, I truly do. I also wish that people would drive with more care and be aware that animals do cross the road - and we need to be as aware of that as we would be of the possiblity of a child crossing.
Sending you sympathetic cyber-hugs and wishing that things were different...
