As a recently bereaved cat owner I am now struggling with the decision to have my new rescue kitten spayed. I have googled it and all I get are the pros and cons. I have always had my pets neutered in the past but I have always been anxious about the risks while on the operating table. I could not cope with the loss of my little Lucy and need to know if there are high mortality rates during these types of operations. Thanks. |

Hi Rosie,
Very pleased to hear that you have got a new kitten in your life. Sure Lucy is adorable! I am sure you realise that there are no guarantees but I can tell you honestly that the mortality rate during neutering procedures of young healthy cats is very low indeed. The same is also true for any medium-to-long term complications relating to the general anaesthesia. As I say, there are no guarantees but the odds are very much in Lucy's favour for a good outcome.
