Bit new to this, as I haven't lost a pet until now. I adopted two beautiful cats, called Fifi and Slinky. Fifi has always been such a homebody but The Slink has always been an outdoor girl. She was sleeping in my neighbours hedge for years, but always came back to mine for food. Slinky has been missing now for over three weeks and I'm starting to fear the worst. When she sleeps, she always puts both her arms right out in front of her, and one of her other names is "Art", as in Art of Sleeping. I miss her, and I love her. If I never see her again, I will always remember that. While the sadness never goes away, the memories remain. Slinky. Siempre. xxx

That is so tough, sorry to hear that. She sounds like a wonderful friend and you can definitely feel your love for her jumping out of your words. This type of pet loss is one of the hardest to deal with in that there remains uncertainty; you don't know the outcome and so it is very hard to know how best to grieve. There are many stories of cats in particular turning up sometimes months even years later but if you allow yourself to hang onto this hope then perhaps you never really deal with your grief at losing her from your life. It sounds to me like you are going about dealing with things in the best possible way - not giving up hope but also acknowledging the possiblity that the worst may have occurred or that even if she is okay she may never be able to return. Really very sorry for this horrible situation you find yourself in.
