This post is by Patricia O'Brien: "On Sunday morning charlie the cat from up the road came in to visit as usual, bypassed the food bowl and went straight upstairs to the bed he made for himself on a cardboard box.I did think that's not like him but he did visit other people in the street so i thought he must of had breakfast already. When i later went upstairs to get ready to go out i patted him on the head as he lay sleeping but he gave my hand a wee nip, again i thought that's not like him, however got ready and went out leaving him to sleep as my husband was at home if charlie wanted out or something to eat.It wasn't until later that eveving that i noticed charlie was still sleeping on his box ,again i thought that's not like him not to be looking for food.as charlie was my neighbours cat we always put him out at night to go home so i ask my husband to do this before he went to bed as i was having a early night.Next morning as usual charlie as there but i thought you don't seem right i picked him up and put him on my bed again I thought maybe he had stay out all night and was just tired and let him sleep on my bed while i tidied up, he must have tried to get to his own bed upstairs and that's where i found him at the top of the stairs he was mouth breathing and his back legs where out behind him.I phoned his owner straight away and told her that there was something wrong with charlie. She came and picked him up and she said he hadn't come home last night, sadly he was put to sleep for spinal injurys and internal bleeding.I feel so guilty i let charlie down when he needed me how could I have missed all these sign's ." |

Dont be harsh on yourself Patricia, so many of us would be in exactly the same position as you. There was no visible signs in the beginning with Charlie, otherwise you would have acted sooner. You are not a vet, forgive yourself and remember all the care, warmth and love you gave him....x
