We lost our beloved dogs last year, seven weeks apart, one died after a road accident, and the other after a stroke. We rescued a worried little dog after a few months, and then we got a puppy at the end of the year. His name was Ged, and he was helping all of us - me and my partner were finally smiling again, and our rescue boy was much happier with Ged by his side, they were inseperable. We took Ged to be neutered yesterday, and the vet rang to say he had died on the operating table. He had just turned one, and had no known health problems. I am stunned, I can't even begin to think how we're going to get over this. We were still grieving for our other dogs, and now we're back at the beginning and I don't know if we can do it. Ged was so loving, always cuddling us and so full of life. How can this be right? I'm just so lost.

You poor, poor people. My heart goes out to you for these devastating, unfair losses. All of us who have lost our beloved pets know how terribly difficult it is. What you are going through seems to be particularly cruel. So very sorry for you.

its so sad to hear of the loss of your 3rd furbaby! to say the pain hurts is an understatment! ive never know pain like it! yes people say but there only animals! no there our family! i lost my girl back in oct 12 and the pain is as raw today as it was the day she left! but im sure with the love you have for your rescue dog! he will help you recovery not heal, be stronge big hugs xx

Dear Jo. My heart goes out to you at this terrible time. Loss on top of more loss takes you beyond breaking point. And to lose a young animal so suddenly is such a shock. I'm so very sorry.
If you are really struggling to cope, as my poor Husband was after we lost a young cat on the road, please do seek professional help. Our GP was very sympathetic and prescribed antidepressants and a course of counselling. I'm not saying 'that's the answer' but there comes a point where you really feel like giving up as the emotions are so tiring and hurtful.
And seek out your animal loving friends and family - they understand some of what you're going through.

im so sorry for your terrible loss I lost my seven week old kitten this week after losing her brother three weeks ago they were both hand reared the pain I feel is unbearable hopefully time will heal the pain for you like im hoping it will for me I really thought my rosie would make it big hugs to you

Can't begin to say how sorry I am for your loss. I've been in a similar situation with much loved, very young, pets going very suddenly one after another. All I can say is, try to keep going. Cat Mum of Four makes a really good point about professional help - maybe your vet has links to a specialist pet bereavement service? If not, your GP is a good place to turn. It is never, ever easy to bear this kind of pain, but do take care of yourselves and recognise that what you feel is perfectly normal and understandable. Take all the love and support you can. From family, friends and people (like me!) who don't even know you but really do send you all the love in the world because we know how heart-breaking it is.
