#1152 - by Michael baxter >> Thu Apr 20th, 2017 11:25 am Milo, our black Labrador retriever was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2007 and had to have medication daily. The vet did say at the time that he would be lucky to reach 10 owing to the effect of the medication on his liver. It was like a countdown clock had started ticking away at such a tender age. He grew into a lovely, sensitive and even-tempered boy and as the years go by, you forget all about that clock clicking away in the background. He was intelligent, funny and stupid all at the same time and made us all happy. The grandchildren adored him and he was so patient when they tried to ride him. They had endless amounts of fun with him, and at the end of the day, when they all went home, all three of us just flopped into the nearest chair we could find. I retired in 2013 and didn't cope very well with the adjustment. I went into some dark places and I would have been lost without the constant support, loyalty and love of this faithful old boy. He made me smile and laugh out loud constantly and was a pleasure to be around. I used to tease him about the grey hairs that had appeared under his chin and thought we would grow older together.
Unfortunately, that clock in the background stopped ticking on Easter Sunday, he passed away peacefully in his sleep.
I am at a total loss, feel empty and think I have cried more than when I lost my parents. I just miss him so much, that
it hurts. I suppose I should be grateful for the time we had, but I feel cheated having him taken away at such an early age. It was a privilege to be part of his life. |

I just want to say how sorry I am, but how precious the time was that you had him in your life; he sounded a wonderful companion and friend and so loved by all. Take each day at a time; I understand how you are feeling; our pets are family and they leave a big gap. Always here if you want to talk. Take care, Penny Xx |

I lost my darling bearded collie a few days ago and my hurt is so intense I dont what to do with myself and I cry all the time.
I cant give you many words of consolation because none would be adequate but I can tell you that I know exactly what you are going through. Pets (and yours, like mine was the perfect one for you) have a way to our heart that is so unique to them.
It is a credit to you that you gave Milo such a happy life. Pets just want to be allowed to be with us and love us unreservedly and whoever makes his companion happy is rewarded tenfold. You were lucky enough to experience it and so was Milo.
I hope the cruelty of the absence lessens with time.
All the best,
Sylvie |
