I have just got home from the vet....I had to to euthanase my beloved guineapig, Charlie.....he was my furry soul-mate.....the most wonderful animal friend that I have ever had !! and I have had MANY pets, and loved each one....but Charlie was an angel sent to this earth for a short while.....He would have been 7yrs old tomorrow ( Valentine's day ). He had developed a huge bladder stone.....Our wonderful vet and friend, Eamonn, was so compassionate and gentle, and I stayed a long while, cuddling Charlie after he slipped away in my arms......I have a gaping wound in my heart.....can't bear to look at the empty cage.......can't get my head around anything tonight.....I am utterly devastated.....

Bless you and Charlie Irene, that's so tough. You have spoken so fondly about the little man, easy for anyone to see how much you love him. I know the words are not enough but you are in our thoughts. RIP Charlie x

Thankyou Shailen.....Just can't believe he's gone !.....I kept his little toy leopard with me last night. He would drag it around his cage, and wherever he settled to sleep, he would use the soft leopard as a pillow. So sweet !.....Eamonn, our vet, is having Charlie's remains cremated for me..... My plan is to go to "Build a Bear" and get them to put his ashes in a little heart, which they then stitch into the teddy.....That way, I will have a little bit of Charlie with me, until we meet again one day.....I have no doubt at all, that I will see my beloved boy again one day....Before he had his injection last night, he stared into my eyes the way he always did, when we "spoke" to each other, and it was if he wanted me to know that he wasn't leaving me forever.....he snuggled into my neck and gave me a last little whiskery kiss.....it was so hard to eventually hand his little body into Eamonn's arms.....Eamonn shared my sadness, as he has been our vet through the years, and adores the rodents ! It meant so much that our vet too shared our grief..... My 3 remaining piggies are grieving for their grandpa Charlie this morning.....awful not to see his little face waiting for my greeting and morning snack..... Even our cat, Kerry, was lovely to Charlie yesterday......they kissed noses..... I will never forget Charlie's wonderful compassion, to both his furry friends and his humans.....he truly is a furry angel, watching over us all now !!......but my heart is broken.......I miss him desperately !!!!! sorry I'm rambling away here......hope nobody thinks I'm weird wanting to put Charlie's ashes into a teddy......but I want to keep a tangible memory of him.....I will try to put a memorial on here when I'm able too.......I so wish that you Shailen, and all the wonderful people I've spoken to on this site, could have met Charlie.....I know you would ALL have adored him.....
Dearest Charlie.....miss you terribly......

Thankyou for your kindness Shailen, and also the quote about "angels". I know you would have loved Charlie. Everyone who met him did. Even our vet, Eamonn, had tears in his eyes as he gave Charlie the injections....I am missing him terribly, but have felt his little spirit with me, and this is a comfort.....but not to see his little face, and hear his wheeking anymore really hurts...

Well.... It was 2 weeks yesterday, since my little Charlie went to the bridge.....I am even more broken-hearted now....It's almost as if I coped when he was put to sleep, but the real shock and loss is hitting now.....
I went to pick up his ashes from the vet yesterday, and am so sad.....They were in a beautiful wooden box, with Charlie's name engraved on it, and a place for a photo of him....
I got home, and put a favourite picture of myself with him in the photo frame, and then lit a little candle for him....I took my baby piggy, Mr.Bumble ( 6mths old) on my lap, and we "talked" and remembered Charlie....
Today, I am taking a small sample of the ashes, and having them sewn into a "Build-a-bear", so that I will always have a cuddly reminder of my beloved Charlie....
I guess I'm going a bit crazy.....I hope nobody thinks I'm over sentimental and silly, but really, I loved that little guineapig, and I'm gutted he's not here any more....

There's nothing silly about it Irene, why should it be any different for Charlie than a dog or cat? It is not about the species is it, but the relationship and bond you had with each other. Sound like some wonderful steps to memorialise and remember him. I also got Ralph's ashes returned to me in a little wooden box when he passed and must admit that I have kept them on one side in the living room - no one seems to find it uncomfortable and it is a nice reminder of him. Thinking of you and kisses to Mr Bumble.
