Hi, I am really struggling as on Sunday my gorgeous 2 year old boy, Mickey, was knocked down and killed outside our house. I discovered him and he was not in a good state although his death had clearly been instant which I suppose is good. I've lost cats before but this one is really hitting me hard. He was a very special cat and he and I had been through a lot together. I just want time to pass to make it easier but it's crawling at snail's pace. So few people seem to understand how much a cat can mean to you. Just wanted to say how I'm feeling. Zara x

Hi Zara, I am so sad to hear of the death of your gorgeous cat Mickey. To lose pets in that way is so distressing and the memory of finding him must have been devastating for you. We have adopted a cat from the Cats Protection League and they insisted she remain an indoor cat because of the busy roads Cats are so quick and rush across roads and accidents happen so quickly. You obviously had a special relationship with Mickey having been through a lot together. His precious life was short but full of love and I do understand how much he meant to you Zara. Take care; sending you love and hugs; always here if you want to talk. Penny xx

Hi Penny, thank you so much for your lovely words. They really mean a lot. And it's so nice to hear from someone who understands! My husband tries but he really doesn't get it. I am so pleased to have found The Ralph Site - what a great thing to exist for all those poor souls who have lost a family member in the form of a pet. xx

Hi Zara, It was when my gorgeous cat Toffee died that I found the Ralph Site; it meant so much to find people who understood what I was going through; caring and sharing the great love we have for our precious pets, who are part of our family. I made friends on the Site and we still keep in touch. It s somewhere you can express your feelings openly and people know exactly what you are going through. Always here ; take care x x Penny

Hi Zara
I'm so sorry, I've just read your post and I am really feeling your sadness and pain right now - please know you are not alone, and this site has lots of lovely people on it (like Penny) who have been through the same experiences of losing a pet, and the ensuing emotional fallout.
I have lost 2 cats: Big Fella, and only in March, Eddie. I find that grief takes a long, long time to work through but I promise it does become easier in time.
Even now, I have moments where I think my Big Fella ( who passed on in January 2015) and I experience panic and anxiety he is no longer here with me. I have learnt to accept these feelings, however hard they can be. I was a complete and utter wreck when Big died; I had terrible anxiety and my depression came back
The thought of him just not being around was too much to bear.
I found what got me through was this site, the Blue Cross pet bereavement service, and time.
I am currently experiencing a lot of bad days and guilty feelings since losing my Eddie, as well. Some days are very tough. I just have to let myself cry and 'be' with the emotions.
I also understand when you say no-one seems to understand. I live on my own, with my cats, but my friends couldn't offer any real sympathy, and my Dad although an animal lover, finds it hard to express his emotions, so I often feel very alone in my grief.
That's why the Ralph Site is so vital, because there are other people like us who share the same feelings and experienced losses of their beloved pets.
Sending you love and hugs
Michelle xx
